Somehow this report morphed into a RTHU in American Birds (37:302), and subsequently The Birds of Pennsylvania by Williams and Brauning, but it's highly unlikely that this bird was a Ruby-throat!

This immature female Rufous appeared in the yard and deck garden of Joanne M. in Delmont in October of 1997. She was captured and banded by Donna and Duane Berger of Hummer/Bird Study Group and Bob Mulvihill of Powdermill Nature Reserve in early December 1997. She remained on site until the end of March or early April 1998 (the exact date is not known because the homeowner was not there). She returned to the same site for sporadic visits in September of 1998 and for residency in October of 1998. I personally saw this hummer on 10/15 & 16/98. She was recaptured and checked on 12/13/98 by HBSG banders. She did not survive the extreme cold of early January 1999 and was found expired by Bob Mulvihill of Powdermill and is now a specimen in the hummingbird collection at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh.
