Sheri Williamson's photo analysis: "Definitely not an Archilochus by the lack of distinctive inner primary shapes, and definitely a juvenile male Anna's by the diagnostic short, angular greater secondary coverts."

Philadelphia/Schuylkill/Northampton Cos. -- "Blue or Blueish Hummers"
None Banded
FO ? ↔ LO ?

In 2019 there were multiple reports of "blue" or bluish hummingbirds in eastern PA. The FIRST report appeared on the Birding PA group on Fb from Marina Riese in late July. Marina reported that she saw a "blueish" hummer in her yard on the outskirts of Philadelphia. The SECOND report came from Frank Haas of the PSO on PABirds in early August which mentioned a second-hand report of a "Broad-tailed Hummer in New Ringgold (Schuylkill Co). There was a followup post on PABirds which said that only one (non-birder) observer saw the hummer; it hadn't been seen in over a week; there were no photos; and a bird-knowledgeable neighbor had not seen any such hummer. PSO members observed the location for 3 hours and saw nothing but RTHUs. The THIRD report came from Mark Boyd of Lehigh Co on PABirds who reported that while in Bangor (Northampton Co) working, that he and a coworker both saw a hummer within fifteen feet twice which appeared heavier than RTHU, was DARK with BLUE. He said he was thinking Green (now Mexican) Violetear or Broad-billed, and requested comments (which I am unaware of).
