BANDED 10/15/15 by Sandy L.

Bob Ferguson's blog entry about seeing the Siefkens' RUHU.

Scott Weidensaul posted on PABirds on Thursday Oct 15th on behalf of Sandy Lockerman that she had banded an adult female Rufous in Adams Co. at the home of Ralph and Deb Siefken. The bird was first seen on Oct 3rd (Priv Message DS). On Mon Oct 19th, Bill Oyler posted a forwarded email from Deb Siefken which stated that although their address is Orrtanna, they live in Buchanan Valley.

Deb Siefken informed me that the Rufous continues through Saturday Jan. 16th 2016! And they have a new enclosed heated 'feederhouse' to shelter the RUHU. Pix on Facebook Hums Anon and Winter Hums groups. The final update is that the Siefkens left on vacation on Jan 20th, and Deb saw the RUHU that morning, and it was seen again later that day by Bob Oyler, but not again.(eml DS)

BANDED 10/18/15 by Sandy L.

Debra Straub posted on Pa Birders on Facebook the picture below, which eventually led Sandy Lockerman to band the adult female Rufous on Sunday Oct 18th at the home of John & Debra Straub in Lykens, PA. The FO date is in question as the bird has been around since September and the ID as non-Rubythroat was late in the making.

BANDED 11/20/15 by Scott W and Sandy & Gary L
FO late Oct/15 ↔ LO 1/4/16

Alex Lamoreaux' ebird checklist with a photo of "Nutmeg".

Scott Weidensaul posted on PABirds on Friday Nov 20th that he and Sandy and Gary Lockerman banded an adult female Rufous at the home of Ethel Sherman in Lykens. This is at the other end of town from the previously banded RUHU in Lykens this season, and there had been observations of at least 2 and possibly 3 hummers at this site in late Oct., leading to the speculation that one of those may have been the previously banded bird.

Ethel has named her Rufous "Miss Nutmeg". (Eml ES)

Central Pa Birdline post on PABirds on Dec 16th (dated Dec 17) noted that this RUHU contined through Dec 13th.

Ethel has informed me that at least 1 and possibly 2 hummers continue thru Jan 1st; and subsequently was last seen fueluing up on Jan 4th. (eml ES)

NOT BANDED
FO 8/1/15 ↔ LO 8/2/15

Sandy Goodwin posted on PABirds on Mon Aug 3rd that there was a beautiful Selaspohrus hummingbird observed at the home of Anthony and Bernice Ziniewicz on the first weekend of August. Unfortunately, this hummer left on Sunday before a bander had arrived. Scott Weidensaul confirmed the ID as Rufous by pictures. And the pix indicate an adult male Rufous. This is the second RUHU at the Ziniewicz residence - they hosted an adult female RUHU in Oct 2012.

Lycoming Co. -- Late RTHU near Pennsdale
NOT BANDED
FO 11/1/15 ↔ LO 11/2/15

David Brown posted on PABirds on Mon Nov 2nd that he had photographed what appeared to be a late RTHU in Lycoming Co. This hummer was seen all day Sunday Nov 1st, then Monday morning between 8-9am, but not afterwards. He also posted an ebird checklist with pix. And he also posted those pix on his Facebook page. Two banders have questioned the width of the outer primaries on this hummer, so it could possibly be a non-RTHU. If not RTHU, Anna's would seem to be a possible alternative ID.

Sheri Williamson commented by Fb IM to me that this hummer's "P10 would be much too narrow for Black-chinned but not for Ruby-throated, and everything I can see in the photos is consistent with that ID."

David Brown is VP of Lycoming Audubon.
