Allegheny Co. -- Adult Female Rufous in Pittsburgh NOT BANDED FO 12/?/14 ↔ LO ? Geoff Malosh's Flickr pix of the Phipps Conservatory Selasphorus on Dec 31st. Geoff Malosh's ebird checklist of the Phipps Conservatory Selasphorus on Sat Jan 10th (pix). Jack Solomon posted on PABirds on Monday Dec 29th about a Selasphorus hummer in Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh. Jack's post was followed by a forwarded confirmatory email from Ted Floyd, who along with Hannah Floyd and Mary Floyd saw the hummer on that day. Numerous other posts followed including one by Geoff Malosh with a link to his pix from Dec 31st (see above). The best information is that the hummer has been in the Stove Room at Phipps since sometime in early December. The staff is doing everything to keep the hummer alive and well. Banding is still pending as of 1/6/15. Best ID from Geoff's pix is an adult female Selasphorus (probable Rufous). Bob Mulvihill informed me that on Jan 19, 2015, that at his suggestion the Conservatory opened ventilation windows and the Selasphorus hummer escaped about 10 minutes later. There was a feeder outside, but there is no follow-up information on whether or not this hummer used it. Bob also noted that it was just about finished with its wing molt and that it appeared kind of fat, so hopefully it made an escape south. (RSM private comm)
