Jack Solomon posted on PABirds on Monday Dec 29th about a Selasphorus hummer in Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh. Jack's post was followed by a forwarded confirmatory email from Ted Floyd, who along with Hannah Floyd and Mary Floyd saw the hummer on that day. Numerous other posts followed including one by Geoff Malosh with a link to his pix from Dec 31st (see above). The best information is that the hummer has been in the Stove Room at Phipps since sometime in early December. The staff is doing everything to keep the hummer alive and well. Banding is still pending as of 1/6/15. Best ID from Geoff's pix is an adult female Selasphorus (probable Rufous).

Bob Mulvihill informed me that on Jan 19, 2015, that at his suggestion the Conservatory opened ventilation windows and the Selasphorus hummer escaped about 10 minutes later. There was a feeder outside, but there is no follow-up information on whether or not this hummer used it. Bob also noted that it was just about finished with its wing molt and that it appeared kind of fat, so hopefully it made an escape south. (RSM private comm)

Bill Keim posted on PABirds on Sun Sept 14th that he first observed a Selaspohrus hummingbird coming to his feeder that morning. However, a neighbor saw this hummer at her flowers on Fri Sept 12th. His Flickr pix definitely show an immature male Selasphorus, but it's difficult to tell if it's a Rufous or an Allen's. Two attempts to capture this hummer for banding have failed. On Wednesday Oct 1st, Bill Keim posted that the Selasphorus was last seen on the morning of Sunday Sept 28th.

On Nov 16, 2015 I discovered an ebird checklist - S20631495 - since deleted (the next day) which listed an observation by Mike Defina and Brian Quindlen of a continuing Rufous hummer on Sat Nov 22, 2015 at 8 Springer Ln (really Springer Way according to Mapquest) in Landenberg, very near the Delaware and Maryland borders. A vidcap was to be posted shortly thereafter, but it was not found!

Montgomery Co Historical Data ebird checklist S20534270

Thanks to August Mirabella, I received info and pix on an obvious immature male Selasphorus (probably a Rufous) at an unknown location in Montgomery Township which first showed up in mid-October. The pictures show an immature male with an obvious rufous back and tail, indicating a definite Selasphorus and probable Rufous. The hosts declined banding and visitors.

An ebird checklist - S20534270 - see link above - I just discovered on Nov 18, 2015 states that this bird was IDed by Scott W as an immature male RUHU from vidcaps.
