Scott Kinzey posted on PABirds on Thurs Oct 31st that he first observed a male Rufous hummingbird coming to his deck at 7:43 AM that morning. This is Scott's second Rufous; he previously hosted a female Rufous in 2011.

Scott Kinzey again posted on PABirds on Fri Nov 1st that the adult male Rufous was banded that day after having first arrived at 7:35 AM that morning. It "had a greener back than average but well within range". It was last seen for the day at 2:11 PM.

Shannon Thompson posted on PABirds on Mon Nov 11th, that she had photographed the adult male Rufous at Scott Kinzey's on Sunday Nov 10th. Link is above.

Scott Kinzey posted on PABirds on Tues Nov 26th and again on Thurs Dec 12th, that the adult male Rufous is still present at his feeders and is still spending time in his neighbor's crabapple tree.

Scott Weidensaul posted on PABirds on Sun Nov 3rd that he banded an adult female rufous hummingbird today at the home of Jim and Joanne Smoker in Shillington.

Scott Weidensaul posted on PABirds on Fri Nov 8th that the Smokers' RUHU was last seen Thurs morning Nov 7th. However, Scott subsequently posted on Sun Nov 17th that the hummer returned and has been present since Nov 12th.

On Fri Jan 3rd I got a forwarded email from J Smoker that the Rufous nicknamed 'Lady Sarah' was still present. (pers comm SW) And Scott Weidensaul posted on PABirds on Mon Jan 6th that she was still present on Sun Jan 5th, but stated in a major update on PABirds on Thur Jan 9th that the hummer left the afternoon of Wed Jan 8th.

Scott Weidensaul posted on PABirds on Sat Nov 9th that he banded an adult female rufous hummingbird today at the home of Marie and Bill Hartranft in Reading. There is also a second hummer at this location which was not seen that day and which remains unidentified. These hummers were referred by Jack Holcomb, whose WEEU show "Jack's Backyard" has now produced three Berks County hummers in just the past few weeks.

Scott posted on PABirds on Sun Nov 17th that this Rufous continues thru Sat Nov 16th. He spent time that Saturday trying to get a look at the mystery second hummer, without success.

Scott Weidensaul let me know on Fri Jan 3rd that this hummer in Reading was still present, but posted on PABirds on Mon Jan 6th that it left on Sat morning Jan 4th after feeding hard for several hours. (pers comm SW)

Alex Lamoreaux posted on PABirds on Sat Nov 9th that Wayne Laubscher banded an adult female Rufous at Mary Ziegler's home in Lemont near State College. The hummer has been visiting since October 27th but was just reported to local birders that morning.

Wayne Laubscher posted on PABirds on Sat Dec 7th that the Lemont Rufous is still on site.

Alex Lamoreaux posted on PABirds on Sun Dec 15th that he and Anna Fasoli saw the Lemont Rufous during the afternoon of Sat Dec 14th.

Mary Ziegler posted on PABirds on Sun Dec 22nd that her Rufous was seen on Friday, but not Saturday, but returned to the feeders again on that Sun morning.

Mary Ziegler informed me on Fri Jan 3rd that she last saw her Rufous that morning at 7:20 AM, and then posted that on PABirds on Sat Jan 4th. However, Scott Weidensaul included in his major update on PABirds on Thur Jan 9th that this hummer was last seen on Tues Jan 7th.

Sandy Lockerman posted on PABirds on Thurs Nov 14th, that after banding the adult male BCHU in Franklin Co the morning of Wed Nov 13th, she proceeded to Mechanicsburg, where a returning adult female RUHU which she had banded last Nov 16th was captured and confirmed to be PA's second same-site returnee of the season.

Jerry McWilliams posted on PABirds on Tues Oct 22nd that Jamie Hill checked out a late hummer present for several weeks in Edinboro on Mon Oct 21st, and saw orange on the base of the rectrices. Photos were pending on Tues Oct 22nd.

Bob Mulvihill posted on Facebook on Thurs Oct 24th that along with June Bernard he banded an adult female Rufous at this Edinboro location that morning.

According to an Erie Co. bird sightings reports Sun Dec 8th and again Sun Dec 15th on PABirds by Jerry McWilliams, the Edinboro Rufous is still on site.

However, I have received a report from the humhostess that this Rufous - nicknamed "Rufina" - was LOed at 10 AM on Mon Dec 16th. (pers comm SW) This is confirmed in the ebird checklist linked above.

On Fri Jan 3rd, I was informed that Scott Weidensaul has been in touch with people south of Seven Springs in Fayette Co who have a female hummer which they describe as having a gorget. They have pix, but have not sent them yet. ID for now is probable Selasphorus and the FO date is unknown at this time. (pers comm SW)

Scott Weidensaul included in his major update on Thur Jan 9th that this hummer was last seen on Sat Jan 4th.

Bill Oyler posted on PABirds on Sun Nov 3rd that Bob Mulvihilll banded a juvenile female rufous hummingbird today at the home of Dick and Kathy Lauver in Newburg. The Lauvers also hosted a Rufous last season. Congrats to the repeat RUHU-hosts.

Bob Mulvihill posted on Facebook that he banded this Rufous at the Lauvers after visiting the Allegheny Front Hawkwatch that Sunday.

Dale Gearhart posted on PABirds on Thur Dec 26th and Sun Dec 29th that the Lauvers' Rufous is still coming to their feeder. Dale once again posted on Sun Jan 5th stating that the Rufous was last seen at 4:53 PM on Fri Jan 3rd.

Dale Gearhart posted on PABirds on Wed Nov 13th that Sandy Lockerman had banded an adult male Black-chinned Hummer at his home that morning. The bird had been first seen around the beginning of November. This is PA's second record BCHU, the first being IDed by photo last year.

Dale Gearhart posted on PABirds on Sat Nov 16th that the BCHU had been seen several times that morning and was seen again Sunday morning. Meredith Lombard posted on PABirds on Sunday Nov 17th, that "along with about half of the Lancaster Co Bird Club" she saw the BCHU on Sat Nov 16th. Link to photos and video is above.

Sandy Lockerman has informed me that there was an adult female Rufous banded in Greencastle, near the Black-chin, and a few days after the BCHU, which was LOed on Nov 24th. According to the host, the hummer first arrived sometime in late October. (pers comm SL x3)

On Tuesday Oct 29th Scott Weidensaul posted on PABirds that he banded an adult male Rufous that afternoon at the home of Robert and Doris Kopp in Reinholds, Lancaster County. The bird has been present since sometime in September.

On Saturday Nov 2nd, Bob Schutsky posted on PABirds about an unusual hummer seen at his location on Fri 11/1 and Sat 11/2. Bob saw is for 5 sec. Friday, and Bob and Tom Amico both saw it ~10 times on Saturday between 9 and 11 AM. Distribution of pix has elicited opinions leaning toward young male Broad-tailed Hummingbird, or an unidentified hybrid. Further ID is pending.

Bob Schutsky informed me that the ID is still under debate as of Sun Nov 3rd (pers comm BS), and then posted on PABirds that Scott Weidensaul and Arlene Koch are thinking RTHU. I have a personal ID comment from Sheri Williamson, author of the Field Guide to the Hummingbirds, who also identifies this hummer as a late RTHU (pers comm SW).

Bob also confirmed the previous report of this late RTHU being LOed around 11 AM on Sat Nov 2nd. (pers comm BS and PABirds)

On Tuesday Oct 15th Wayne Laubscher posted on PABirds that he banded a hatch-year female Rufous hummer near Muncy that morning. This location is near the locations of 2 other Rufous which he banded last season. Visitation is not permitted for this hummer.

On Sat Oct 26th, Wayne Laubscher posted on PABirds that the Muncy Rufous was seen on Fri Oct 25th. I subsequently received the LO date of Nov 24th from Wayne by email.

On Wednesday Nov 13th Wayne Laubscher posted on PABirds that he captured an already banded after hatch-year female Rufous hummer in Unityville on Tuesday Nov 12th. The information from the federal Bird Banding Lab was that it had been banded on 11/3/12 as a hatch year bird at Prince Frederick, Maryland which is about 30 miles SE of Washington DC. This is Pennsylvania's 4th live "foreign recaptured" Rufous!

Steve Sanford posted on PABirds on Sun Oct 27th that he and Suzanne Butcher observed an adult male Rufous at the feeder at Neil Troyers' house on Sat Oct 26th. There is also a report of a Selasphorus hummer at a neighbor's house, but that could, of course, be the same hummer.

Bob Mulvihill posted on Facebook and I got an email from Steve Sanford about the banding of this beautiful adult male Rufous on Sun Oct 27th. There are pix by Geoff Malosh on Facebook posted by Bob.

Shannon Thompson posted on PABirds on Tues Oct 29th that she visited the Troyer residence that afternoon, but the RUHU was a no-show, and had not been seen since the previous afternoon.

This Rufous continues thru Nov 30th as reported to Bob Mulvihill as posted on PABirds in the Dec 19th Western PA RBA by Amy Taracido.

Wayne Laubscher posted on PABirds on Mon Aug 26th that there is a probable adult male Rufous in the Watsontown area of Northumberland Co. He does have pix of the bird and a banding attempt is pending. A second post on Tues Aug 27th confirmed the ID as adult male Rufous, identified the hostess as Kate Hastings, and reported that a banding attempt that day was not successful. Visitors are welcome to see this hummer.

After Wayne had informed me of an unsuccessful banding attempt on Wed Aug 28th, he posted on PABirds on Fri Aug 30th that he successfully caught and banded this previously unbanded Rufous that morning.

On Thursday Sept 19th, Kate Hastings posted on PABirds that 'Ru', her adult male Rufous was still on site and was now less skittish of visitors. He had now been there for 5 weeks.

On Tuesday Sept 24th, Wayne Laubscher posted on PABirds that the Rufous in Watsontown continues, and is defending all the yard feeders.

On Wedneday Oct 9th, Wayne Laubscher posted on PABirds that the Rufous in Watsontown was seen on Tues Oct 8th in the morning and late afternoon, and again on Tuesday Oct 15th that 'Ru' was seen that morning.

On Tues Dec 3rd, Wayne Laubscher posted on PABirds that 'Ru' continues in Watsontown and has now been onsite for 3½ months, followed by another post on Sat Dec 7th noting the same. Another post by Wayne on Wed Dec 18th reported this hummer now on site for over 4 months and continuing thru Tues Dec 17th.

Wayne Laubscher posted on PABirds on Thurs Dec 26th that the Watsontown Rufous was present thru Wed. Dec 25th, then again on Tues Dec 31st that 'Ru' was present thru Mon Dec 30th. I subsequently received the LO date of Jan 2nd from Wayne by email.

Scott Weidensaul posted on PABirds on Fri Nov 29th that there is a Selasphorus hummer at the home of Sherrie and Donny Ney in Pine Grove which he has seen but has been unable to catch as of yet. He then posted on Sat Nov 30th that he caught and banded an adult female Rufous at the Ney residence.

There are multiple posts on PABirds from the first week of December reporting this Rufous was seen at the Ney residence.

Dave Kruel posted on PABirds on Sat Dec 21st that the Pine Grove Rufous was seen and counted on the Western Schuylkill CBC that day.

Michael David posted on PABirds on Sun Sept 22nd that Jeff Payne observed a Selasphorus hummer near Berlin in Somerset Co on Friday Sept 20th, and that he observed this hummer on Sunday morning Sept 22nd and agrees with the ID as Selasphorus. No pix are available yet.

On Sun Sept 29th, Bob Mulvihill posted on PABirds that he had banded an adult female Rufous in the yard of Jeff Payne in Somerset Co on Sat afternoon, Sept 28th. The hummer was in heavy wing and body molt.

On Fri Nov 29th Scott Weidensaul posted on PAbirds that he banded an adult female Rufous in the same yard which is bisected by the Susquehanna/Wyoming Co border where a Selasphorus was reported last year, but wasn't banded. This is a probable return bird, but this can't be confirmed because last year's bird was not banded.

There are multiple posts on WVBirds by Joe Hildreth describing the beautiful adult male Rufous at the home of Bill and Jan Beatty in Wellsburg, Brooke Co., West Virginia. Joe also posted a photo on PABirders Facebook page.

Joey Herron posted on WVBirds on Mon Oct 21st that he observed the Wellsburg adult male Rufous several times and commented "what a beautiful bird"! See his photos at the link above.

Joe Hildreth posted on WVBirds on Sun Oct 27th that the RUHU is still at the Beatty residence.

Joe Hildreth posted on WVBirds on Wed Nov 13th that Bob Mulvihill banded the Beattys' Rufous and it was still present through that day.

Joe Hildreth informed me on Dec 28th that the Rufous fed heavily on Nov 29th and then disappeared. (pers comm JH)
