Wyoming Co. -- Unidentified Hummingbird outside Wilkes-Barre (not banded) -- OBS 12/24/01 According to the Local Notes section on pg 255 of Pennsylvania Birds Vol 15 No 4, Bill Reid of Wilkes-Barre observed a hummingbird hawking insects from a snag in a hemlock tree in his yard near the Susquehanna River on Christmas Eve 2001. The bird was seen to foray out from a perch and return at least 6 times. The area where the hummer was seen was described as too shady to see colors on the bird; thus it remained unidentified as to species. A feeder was filled and hung, but the bird did not return. |
